I have been on Proscar, Proscar, and Propecia for a couple of years, but I am still not 100% sure what I am taking and will keep you posted!

Proscar can only be taken when prescribed by your doctor. It is not for everyone, and not everyone can use this medication. You may find it helpful to have your blood tested for prostate specific antigen (PSA) and to have a discussion about your use of Proscar.

If you have questions or concerns about taking Proscar, please feel free to ask.

Is Proscar right for you?

Proscar (finasteride) is for use by MEN ONLY and should be taken on an empty stomach or with a meal.

The recommended dose is 1 mg per day. It may be taken with or without food.

What should I discuss with my doctor before I take Proscar?

I was prescribed Proscar (finasteride) in June for benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) which is the most common cause of BPH. It can also be used for hair loss in men. Proscar can be taken with or without food, but I generally recommend at least one pill a day. Proscar should not be taken in conjunction with an alpha blocker. In my experience, alpha blockers are associated with lower rates of prostate cancer (prostate cancer in male patients).

Proscar is for use by MEN ONLY and should be taken on an empty stomach or with a meal.

How long will I have to wait before I can take Proscar?

I usually start on 1mg/day and then increase to 2mg/day in either 5 or 10mg increments. I usually start on 5mg/day and then increase to 10mg/day. It's important to take the Proscar 1 mg/day once or twice daily, if you are taking it in conjunction with an alpha blocker.

If you are taking Proscar, you should wait at least 48 hours after the start of treatment before you start the daily use of Proscar.

What happens if I miss a dose?

If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you can. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do not take a double dose.

If you take the Proscar 1 mg/day, you should only take Proscar on an empty stomach. You can also take it on an empty stomach in the morning.

If you take it on an empty stomach, take it at the same time each day. You can also take it on an empty stomach in the middle of the day.

If you are taking Proscar, you should only take Proscar at the same time each day.

Are there any side effects?

Proscar is generally well tolerated. Some men may experience side effects from the drug.

Does Proscar cause weight gain?

Proscar can cause weight gain (gynongynon) in some men. This is known as "male pattern baldness".

If you experience this, your doctor may prescribe you an increase in the dose or decrease in the dose.

If you have any questions about weight gain or side effects, ask your doctor.

If you are taking any other medications, talk with your doctor or pharmacist.

Can I buy Proscar without a prescription?

Proscar is only available with a prescription from a licensed doctor. You can also buy Proscar online without a prescription from your local pharmacy. However, you will need a prescription from your doctor in order to purchase Proscar.

For information on where to purchase Proscar and what to do if it is available, see "How to Find a Pharmacy for Proscar."

You can find a local pharmacy by calling their number 1 on 1-866-233-4469.

Finasteride is used to treat men with benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) and male pattern hair loss, also called androgenetic alopecia. BPH is caused by an enlarged prostate. Men with BPH usually have difficulty urinating, a decreased flow of urination, hesitation at the beginning of urination, and a need to get up at night to urinate. Finasteride will make these symptoms less severe and reduce the chance that prostate surgery will be needed. It may be used alone or in combination with other medicines such as an alpha-blocker to treat BPH. For men with hair loss, finasteride will increase the number of scalp hairs but will not increase the amount of body hair.

Finasteride blocks the action of an enzyme called 5-alpha-reductase. This enzyme changes testosterone to another hormone that causes the prostate to grow or hair loss in males. It will increase testosterone levels in the body, which decreases prostate size and increases hair growth on the scalp. The effect of finasteride on the prostate and scalp will only last as long as the medicine is taken. When it is stopped, the prostate begins to grow again and the hair will be lost.

Special Precautions

General:Patients with large residual urine volume and/or severely diminished urinary flow should be carefully monitored for urinary symptoms.

HepaticoGI:Patients with a history of hepatic disease and/or hepatic impairment should be promptly investigated for related disorders.lerucoveneosemia (1 in 1000,000) has been reported in patients with mild to severe hepatic impairment and should be carefully managed. In case of persistent or severe hepatic failure, appropriate hepaticributions should be treated. The presence of active prostatic hyperplasia should be treated with caution. The dosage of the active ingredient may be adjusted in accordance with the clinical and pathological findings.

Renal:Hepatic function abnormalities, including nephrotic syndrome, have been reported in patients with prerenal cirrhosis. The serum creatinine level may be elevated in patients with prerenal cirrhosis. In case of acute renal failure, careful monitoring of renal function is necessary. The dosage of the active ingredient should be adjusted in accordance with the clinical and pathological findings. In patients with prerenal cirrhosis, the administration of an oral dose of an oral dose of 50 mg to 20 mg once daily for 5 days (a 5 day course of therapy) may result in the symptomatic improvement. The dosage may be adjusted in accordance with the clinical and pathological findings. It is advisable to start treatment with a low-dose of the active ingredient only when it has been observed, and to stop treatment at the first sign of renal failure. It is essential to follow the treatment plan as it can lead to the development of acute renal insufficiency and potentially fatal acute glomerulonephritis (a progressive kidney disease with renal tubular necrosis).

Interaction

Hepatic Dysphagia:There is a possible risk of hypokalaemia (high potassium) with the use of aliskiren in patients with preexisting hepatic dysfunction. When used alone or in combination with aliskiren, this risk should be considered. Lecobar discoloration, hypertrophy, and inflammation of the liver, especially at the beginning of treatment, should be considered. Patients with a history of hypokalaemia should be carefully monitored. Patients with a history of hyperkalaemia should be carefully monitored. Patients with a history of severe hypokalaemia should be carefully monitored. If clinically indicated, the use of aliskiren in these patients may be considered. Aliskiren should be used with caution in patients with hepatic dysfunction, especially in patients with prerenal cirrhosis, ascites, or renal insufficiency. The administration of aliskiren to patients with hepatic impairment should be carefully monitored. Aliskiren is a prodrug.

Adverse Effects

The most commonly reported adverse reactions (acute and chronic) of all drug classes are headache, dyspepsia, abdominal pain, dysmenorrhoea, dyskalaemia, dysmenorrhoea accompanied by dyspepsia, dyspepsia, and diarrhea. Most of the adverse reactions observed during therapy with finasteride are mild to moderate in severity. Patients with a history of headache, dyspepsia, nausea, vomiting, and dysmenorrhoea should be observed closely for signs and symptoms suggestive of these reactions. If signs and symptoms of these reactions occur, they should be investigated.
